About Me

Al Polito here. I am a writer and branding consultant currently living in Portland, Oregon.

A few fun facts

  • I’m the youngest of nine children. My parents have been married about 65 years and are still loving life.
  • I was on the reality show “Blind Date.” (I was recruited—I didn’t sign up!) And no, there was no second date.
  • Both my grandparents were well known in old Hollywood: Albert D’Agostino was an art director for RKO and Sol Polito was a director of photography whose most famous movie was Robin Hood with Errol Flynn.

Whether you are in the process of creating your brand, redoing your brand, or reinforcing your brand, I have the instinct to “get inside” your brand and put it in words. I can also recommend other professionals to help you get your message out and have it be on-brand. I also have years of experience documenting policies and procedures as well as other kinds of technical writing.

My approach to life

Most of my life I played it pretty safe, but over time I learned that taking risks (and falling flat on my face at times) speaking my truth (at times, with foot in mouth), and enjoying that which makes me happy is a much more fulfilling way to live. I’m always learning how to get it right, and I’m humbled to have great teachers. I’ve learned that our teachers can be any person we’re open to listening to, as well as our own minds when we’re willing to drop the self-judgments and preconceived notions of how we think life is or ought to be.

In my spare time, I enjoy cooking, hiking, styling and maintaining bonsai trees (my trees express my love for the trees that grow here in the beautiful Pacific Northwest), and making music (I have recorded three CDs). I am the kind of guy who always has his hands in few different projects—feel free to ask me what I’ve been up to lately.
